I’m totally rejoicing in the pleasant cool-down so I can get more wear out of this elegant, spring-time Jill Stuart coat; the marigold nearly matches anything and adds a spring-y dimension to all looks. I wore this non-stop during my trip to SF last month and during most cooler nights of early Spring, so I’ve probably been exasperatedly labeled as this girl wearing freakin yellow everyday. But I can’t help it when I’m obsessed! I also have this shift dress from Sugarlips on constant rotation because of its ease, flattering shape, and vivid color. And what goes with color? Yup, more color.

cheery florals

The floral print of this Lulu*s dress is like an “oil cloth of a Hawaiian grandmother dipped in a soft hip,” as told by Gill when I sought a fair and honest appraisal of my appearance from The Bumbys at the Guess x Coachella pool party. I can’t imagine the dress could’ve been described more poetically. The cheery floral print really is unique and wonderful, delicate and soft; the perfect Spring print to cover a mod shift dress that can be worn for dazzling garden parties and elegant soirees. The only thing I need now is a big floppy hat and I’m off to polo fields.

sunday funday: Penelope’s Vintage

LOVE this super fun slumber party lookbook from Penelope’s Vintage. It’s so amazingly styled by my dear friend and owner of PV, Chanelle, and I have to say, the bubbles in the first pic are a magical little touch. It’s making me want to call up my best girl friends for some old school MASH and music video recreations.  Check out her online vintage store for some great one-of-a-kind pieces!

in the moment

I’m so happy to find the closest dress to my dream dress that Kiera Knightley wears in Atonement. The beautiful emerald green and the slinky straps of this dress from Last Night definitely called for 1930s aristocratic glamour and a thoughtful walk around the rose gardens near sunset. I must say this is one of the most fulfilling dresses, ever.

once upon a dream

Decided to complete the princess transformation from my maiden self in my last post.  This Dress the Population skirt made that dream come true.  Its light chiffon fabric in a blushing pink flowed so elegantly as I walked, even when I took baby steps. I had too much fun just strutting back and forth and making extra dramatic turns. The way the skirt glided in the air was intensely mesmerizing and so enchanting that it threw my imagination into the scene where Sleeping Beauty sings ‘Once Upon a Dream’ before meeting her Prince Phillip.

You know that Marilyn Monroe quote, “Give a girl the right pair of shoes, and she can conquer the world”? Well replace “pair of shoes” with “Dress the Population skirt.”

dream weaver

As much as I’m obsessed with maxi dresses, I just can’t wear them as much as I want to in this 90°F weather. That extra bit of cloth flowing over your legs act like an oven sometimes! Luckily a cloudy day came by so I snatched the chance at wearing a new dress given by Sugarlips. I know it’s not the first thing you’ll look at, but my favorite part is the way the top slinks down. I think it’s reminiscent of a silk chemise or nightgown - very flattering for the décolletage.  Call me crazy - first thing that comes to mind when I wear this dress is imagining myself in the middle of a meadow as a maiden, with deer and bluejays beside me, just before somehow turning into a princess (a la Cinderella). Yes, I dream quite a bit.

florally mine

No hype, but this beautiful floral Zara dress is the most favorite dress I have worn in my entire life. This is my first knee-length midi dress, the style I’ve usually steered away from because I had thought anything past my knee would make me look stumpy. Instead, I’ve never felt more confident, energetic, and happy with what I was wearing, especially when experimenting with something so strange and new. This Versace-inspired print immediately caught my eye at Zara, so I ran to snatch what would be the last XS. The cut is done amazingly well, falling just at my knee (for reference, I’m 5’4”).  Speaking as a short girl who loves to look tall, this dress will do it for you.

If you’re liking the midi dress trend, but afraid to try it out because you’re short or petite, I have a couple suggestions. Always look for a figure-hugging fit. Like skinny jeans, it will elongate your body, especially if you wear heels (higher the better!). Try the dress on - if the hem hits right at your knee or above, it’s perfect. Any lower towards the middle of your calf, the dress may give a shortening effect and make your calves look wider (no thanks!).

I wore this to Lucky FABB on Sunday for a fabulous brunch hosted by Rewardstyle and Lucky, then a fun girl’s day out shopping safari hosted by Have to Have on Abbot Kinney, and lastly a cocktail party at every home decorator’s heaven, the Kelly Wearstler boutique. I met so many amazing bloggers and brands and just had a blast. More pics and recaps to come soon! Thank you everyone for supporting me and encouraging me to be where I am today. If it weren’t for you then I wouldn’t have remotely made it to Lucky FABB so I have to thank my readers for this one! I have a couple special treats coming up for you guys and gals so don’t you worry, I’ll be taking care of you ;)

ombre embrace

Happy Friday everyone! It’s Coachella weekend and I’m going to have to live vicariously through those lucky souls who get to go and will post hundreds of cool desert pics next week. But a lack of tickets ain’t stopping me from feeling inspired by this festival’s moodboard. It’s definitely the Coachella hype and the spring fever bringing about this desire for more ombre. Ombre is a gentler approach to bringing together colors on your dress or shorts without being in your face I’m a rainbow and cutting you in half in awkward places. It’s like a minimalist’s version of tie-dye. Topshop has plenty of cute picks and surprisingly you can find a ton of handmade dip-dyed and studded Levi’s on Etsy! Isn’t the dye job on those purple ombre shorts just perfect?

spring fever

I spent my first day of Spring perusing knick knacks at Ikea. I went home with two jars and a vase, which I intend to place pretty stems in to decorate my room. I love the environment of having fresh flowers in my room and around the house so I’ve made it a habit to buy a few stems every grocery trip. And I always have to top off my Ikea trip with a $1 frozen yogurt. Yum!

I give you three looks, one versatile dress. I accidentally layered two belts because I put it on my dress like that looking in the mirror, trying to decide between the two. After so long, I just said screw it and left it there, happy without having to make a decision.  First stop of the day was in Mitsuwa market and my favorite ramen place in Irvine, Santouka. Spent a lot of time in the candy and chips aisle as you can see, but grabbed my go-to strawberry chocolates, melon cream soda, and the hello kitty rice ball cookies. I just love, love, and adore the lil old man in the 7th picture! Made it back home after a large bowl of spicy miso ramen. It’s a bit chillier in my house so I love to throw on this soft, drapey UNIF robe/coat while lazying around the abode. I have yet to justify wearing this robe out without looking like I stepped out of my bathroom, any ideas? Third stop was dinner at BJ’s because damn, I was really craving the pizookie and some Hef. For bracing the nighttime breeze, I added the pastel pink blazer from Zara. To my amazement, it created such a nice tri-toned neutral fade.

Here’s the actual dress from Need Supply Co., deconstructed.

This dress eludes a modern Artemis look to me, with its earthy tone and brilliantly designed drape. It’s perfect to wear when I’m too lazy to add layers of accessories or clothes. The slouchy back begs to not be hidden.
